Winter Saloons 19 - 22

Car 19 entered the paint shop again during April for a much needed repaint and returned to service looking all the better on Ramsey Sprint Day, 4th June 2002 wearing this pleasing rendition of 1950s MER Co. austerity livery. The car is devoid of all lining out and signwriting with the exception of fleet numbers and features just M.E.R on the side panels. 19 is seen here at Derby Castle. Comparisons can be made with Car 20 depicted below.

A close up view of 19's sidetitling, showing the infamous and historically correct ommision of the full stop after the letter R, believed to have been a cost saving measure in the 1950s when the MER Co finances were at a low .

Car 21 and Trailer 41 seen passing through the former Garwick Station during April 1995. Garwick was once one of the most popular stops on the MER, many visitors stopping off to explore the Glen, which subsequently closed to the Public in 1969 after passing into private ownership. The Station building and waiting room which were situated to the left of the tram were demolished in 1978. (Photo A. Spencer)

Winter Saloon 21 as shown here at Derby Castle has also received a repaint recently, this time into standard MER colours although the controversial application of Isle of Man Transport vinyl bus logos to it's dash panels has not been a popular move. 21 returned to service after undergoing body attention over the Winter, returning to service in time for Easter 2002.

Replica Winter Saloon 22 returned to service in 2001 in this controversial rendition of Isle of Man Transport's current bus livery following a much needed overhaul to its trucks and bodywork. Not apparent from this view, it's seat have been upholstered in standard bus moquette. 22 is seen here shortly after returning to service at Laxey along with Winter Trailer 58 whilst operating on a Private Hire.
